After Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2720

O Allah, forgive me, guide me, provide for me, and grant me well-being. I seek refuge in Allah from the distress of this world and the distress of the Day of Resurrection.

Allahumma-ghfir li, wahdini, warzuqni, wa 'afini. A'udhu billahi min diqis-dunya wa diqil-yawmil-qiyamah.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite after the obligatory Asr prayer, but can also be beneficial after any of the five daily prayers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to a man who came to him and asked for a comprehensive prayer. It's a perfect moment to connect with Allah after fulfilling your religious duty.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus after finishing your Asr prayer, preferably while still seated in the place of prayer, facing the Qiblah. Raise your hands slightly if you wish, though it's not a strict requirement for this specific dua. Reflect on each part of the prayer: seeking forgiveness, guidance, provision, well-being, and protection from worldly and otherworldly hardship.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates several vital aspects of a Muslim's supplication. It directly asks Allah for: * **Forgiveness (Maghfirah):** A fundamental need for every human being. * **Guidance (Hidayah):** The compass that keeps us on the straight path. * **Provision (Rizq):** Both material and spiritual sustenance. * **Well-being ('Afiyah):** Health, safety, and contentment. * **Protection:** Seeking refuge from the difficulties of this life and the immense challenges of the Day of Judgment. The Prophet ﷺ advised a man, 'O righteous man, this prayer has been comprehensive.' (Sahih Muslim 2720), indicating its great value and completeness in seeking good from Allah.

Source & Authentication

The narrator reported that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and asked him: 'O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is the best?' He said: 'Supplication is the essence of worship.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me a comprehensive prayer.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, forgive me, guide me, provide for me, and grant me well-being. Indeed, these (forgiveness, guidance, provision, and well-being) are your worldly and otherworldly needs.' And he also said: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of this world and the distress of the Day of Resurrection.' This man, when he returned to his family, came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you taught me a comprehensive prayer. I said it in the morning and in the evening.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O righteous man, this prayer has been comprehensive.' [Sahih Muslim 2720]
