Dua for a Tranquil Heart After Prayer: Seeking Refuge from Anxiety

After Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful dua is ideal to recite immediately after finishing your obligatory prayers (Fard). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companions, and it's particularly potent when the heart is still connected to Allah after the spiritual immersion of Salah, seeking His protection from the burdens that weigh us down.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and deep reflection after completing your Taslim (the concluding salutations of the prayer). Imagine each phrase as a shield, actively seeking Allah's protection from the specific anxieties and difficulties mentioned. Continue reciting after prayer, perhaps raising your hands slightly, as the Prophet ﷺ would often do when making dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua shields the believer from crippling emotional states like anxiety (which festers into worry) and sorrow. It also protects against debilitating internal states like helplessness and lethargy, as well as character flaws like cowardice and miserliness. Crucially, it seeks refuge from the external pressures of overwhelming debt and being overpowered by people, ensuring a more peaceful and dignified life. Reciting this after prayer amplifies its effect, as your heart is already inclined towards Allah.
