After Eating
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5105

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah Who fed me this and provided it to me without any strength or power from myself.

Alhamdulillahilladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited immediately after finishing a meal. It's a moment to pause and reflect on the blessing of sustenance. Think about that moment when the last bite is taken, the plate is cleared, and the feeling of satisfaction settles in. That's the perfect time to utter these words.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely after you've finished eating and drinking. It's a personal reflection and expression of gratitude. You can say it quietly to yourself or softly aloud. The most important aspect is the feeling of heartfelt appreciation for the food and the One who provided it.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates profound gratitude. It acknowledges that our ability to eat and the food itself are blessings from Allah. It trains us to recognize that our own strength and power are insufficient without His grace, fostering humility and a deeper connection to our Sustainer. Reciting this reminds us that every meal is a gift, and our capacity to enjoy it is also from Allah.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri said: "When the Prophet ﷺ finished his food, he would say: 'All praise is due to Allah Who fed me this and provided it to me without any strength or power from myself.'" (Sunan Abi Dawud 5105). Another narration from Thawban states: "When the Prophet ﷺ finished eating, he would say: 'Praise be to Allah, praise that is abundant, pure, and blessed. We are not in need (of anyone else), nor is it to be taken lightly.'" (Sahih al-Bukhari 5451). The dua we focus on here, 'Alhamdulillahilladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah,' is specifically Hasan and highlights our dependence on Allah.
