All praise is due to Allah, [praiseworthy] praise in abundance, pure and blessed. We are not self-sufficient, nor is it ever to be bid farewell, nor is He to be done without, our Lord.
Al-hamdu lillahi hamdan kathiran tayyiban mubarakan feehi, ghaira makfiyyin wa la muwadda'in wa la mustaghna 'anhu Rabbuna

Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this specific wording of gratitude after eating to show the depth of appreciation for Allah's blessings. The mention of 'ghaira makfiyyin' (not self-sufficient) and 'la muwadda'in' (never to be bid farewell) highlights our utter dependence on Allah for this sustenance and all other provisions. By expressing such profound thanks, we are striving to please Allah, and pleasing Allah is the ultimate key to His Paradise. This form of sincere gratitude turns a simple act of eating into an act of worship that can lead to immense reward.

Narrated Abu Umamah: The Prophet (ﷺ) was given a bowl of food and he said: 'O Allah, incline to us with Your forgiveness and Your satisfaction.' Then he said: 'All praise is due to Allah, [praiseworthy] praise in abundance, pure and blessed. We are not self-sufficient, nor is it ever to be bid farewell, nor is He to be done without, our Lord.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5443). Another narration from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Allah is pleased with His servant, and praises him, and accepts his excuse, when he eats [of His provision] and praises Him.' (Sahih Muslim 2734). This implies that expressing gratitude like the dua taught is a way to earn Allah's pleasure.
