Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out during the day and did not speak to them or they spoke to him. He came to the people of the house of Abu Tha'labah and they asked him: O Messenger of Allah, (there is) a subject before us. He said: "What is it?" He said: They are your neighbors, the People of the Book, and they cook meat in their kitchens, and they have ovens, and they give us loans of their vessels. He (the Prophet ﷺ) said: "As for the People of the Book, you may eat in their cooking pots, provided they do not put anything forbidden in them. And if you have an oven, you may cook in it, and if you have vessels, you may use them, provided they do not put anything forbidden in them." (Abu Hurairah said:) And Abu Tha'labah said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we eat the food of the People of the Book? He said: "Indeed, eat the food of the People of the Book, if they have not cooked anything forbidden." (Abu Hurairah said:) And Abu Tha'labah said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we drink from their vessels? He said: "Indeed, drink from their vessels, if they have not put anything forbidden in them." (Abu Hurairah said:) And Abu Tha'labah said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we accept their invitation to dine? He said: "Indeed, accept their invitation to dine." (Abu Tha'labah said:) And Abu Tha'labah said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we invite them to dine? He said: "Indeed, invite them to dine." And when he broke his fast with a man from the Ansar, he said: 'At the people who have broken their fast with you, may the righteous people break their fast with you; and may your food be eaten by the righteous, and may your (people) have mercy on those who have mercy on you.' Or he said: 'O Allah, feed those who fed me and give drink to those who gave me drink.'
