Dua After Eating: Seeking Purity of Heart

After Eating
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5444

Praise be to Allah, a much, pure, blessed praise, which is not insufficient, nor is it bid farewell, nor is it dispensable, our Lord.

Al-hamdulillah hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubarakan feehi, ghaira makfiyyin wa la muwadda'in wa la mustaghnan 'anhu Rabbana

When to Read

Recite this dua immediately after finishing your meal, before any other activity. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge Allah's bounty and express gratitude beyond a simple 'Alhamdulillah'.

How to Read

Say this with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude. Reflect on the meaning of the words: you are not just praising Allah for the food, but for His continuous blessings that are never-ending and always sufficient. Remember that the Prophet ﷺ taught us the importance of remembering Allah after every action.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive praise acknowledges Allah's infinite blessings and sufficiency. By expressing such deep gratitude, we invite further blessings and, more importantly, cultivate a heart that remains soft and receptive to goodness, preventing it from becoming hardened by heedlessness. The Prophet's ﷺ own practice shows us the profound spiritual significance of seeking Allah's pleasure after receiving sustenance.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Umamah: The Prophet ﷺ, when he finished his meal, used to say: 'Al-hamdulillah hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubarakan feehi, ghaira makfiyyin wa la muwadda'in wa la mustaghnan 'anhu Rabbana.' (Praise be to Allah, a much, pure, blessed praise, which is not insufficient, nor is it bid farewell, nor is it dispensable, our Lord.) And when he had finished food from another tablecloth, he would say the same. And when he drank something, he would say it. And when he finished drinking, he would say it.
