اللَّهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنِّي الأَذَى، وَاغْفِرْ لِي
O Allah, remove from me any harm (from this food) and forgive me.
Allahumma adh-hib 'anni al-adha, waghfir li
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited immediately after finishing a meal. It's a moment of gratitude and a prayer for spiritual cleansing that follows the physical nourishment we receive.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely after completing your meal. It's a personal supplication, so focus on the meaning and the intention behind asking Allah to purify not just the body, but also the heart from any potential negative effects of the food, and to forgive any shortcomings in our gratitude or manners.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication goes beyond thanking Allah for the meal itself. It acknowledges that our bodies and souls are connected. By asking Allah to remove 'al-adha' (harm or inconvenience), we are seeking protection from any physical discomfort or spiritual impurity that might arise from what we've eaten. It's a recognition that even our nourishment should lead us closer to Allah, not weigh us down. The request for forgiveness ('waghfir li') encompasses any lack of proper gratitude or heedlessness during the meal.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he finished eating: 'Allahumma adh-hib 'anni al-adha, waghfir li.' (O Allah, remove from me any harm and forgive me).
