Alhamdulillahilladhi At-amana wa Saqana: A Dua of Gratitude After Waking

After Eating
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2717

All praise is for Allah Who fed us and gave us to drink, and Who sufficed us and sheltered us. For how many are there for whom there is no one to suffice them and no one to shelter them?

Alhamdulillahilladhi at'amana wa saqana, wa kafana wa awana, fa kam mimman la kafiya lahu wa la mu'wiya lah.

‘Amr ibn al-‘As reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me a supplication to recite at the time of the nightfall. He said: "O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they overshadow, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they mislead, Lord of the winds and all that you cause to blow, I ask You for the good of this day and the good of what is in it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what is in it. O Allah, I ask You for good and reward for what is in the hands (i.e., what lies ahead), and I seek refuge in You from evil and loss for what lies ahead. O Allah, I ask You for the enjoyment of [hearing and] sight, and the strength to remain alive, and [the grace] to remain alive in Your obedience and alive in a manner that earns Your pleasure, and that You make it an inheritance for me. O Allah, I ask You for ease after this hardship, and I seek refuge in You from hardship, and I ask You for a good outcome in all affairs, and I seek refuge in You from disgrace in this life and torment in the hereafter." He (Amr) said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach us these supplications and he also taught us: ‘Say: AL-HAMDU LILLAHILLADHI AT’AMANA WA SAQANA, WA KAFANA WA AWANA, FA KAM MIMMAN LA KIFIYA LAHU WA LA MU'WIYA LAHU’ (All praise is for Allah Who fed us and gave us to drink, and Who sufficed us and sheltered us. For how many are there for whom there is no one to suffice them and no one to shelter them?)."
