Dua for the Ummah: Rekindling Passion and Overcoming Complacency

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This is a profound dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often recite upon waking up. It's particularly relevant when we feel a dip in our spiritual drive or notice a widespread lethargy within the Ummah. Recite it after Fajr prayer, or anytime you feel the need to reconnect with your purpose in Islam and inspire yourself and others towards greater action for the Deen.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, reflecting on each part. 'Beneficial knowledge' refers to knowledge that guides you to the truth and helps you act upon it. 'Pure provision' means sustenance that is lawful and free from any haram. 'Accepted deeds' are those done sincerely for Allah's sake, in accordance with His commands and the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. Imagine yourself implementing this knowledge, earning this provision, and performing these righteous acts with renewed passion.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a holistic approach to spiritual growth and contribution. Beneficial knowledge allows us to understand our obligations and how to fulfill them effectively. Pure provision frees our hearts and minds from the worries of unlawful earnings, allowing for greater devotion. Accepted deeds are the ultimate goal, as they are what truly weigh heavy on the scales and bring us closer to Allah. By asking for these three, we are essentially asking for the tools and the spiritual state necessary to overcome complacency and actively serve the Deen, both individually and collectively.
