O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the vanishing of Your blessings, the reversal of the well-being You granted, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You decree of Your wrath. I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow. I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Wa a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan. Wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasal. Wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-buhl. Wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is powerful when recited regularly, particularly after the obligatory prayers. It's also fitting to invoke during times of personal reflection or when witnessing any signs of spiritual decline within ourselves or the community, such as the spread of arrogance, self-deception, or a general weakening of faith and reliance on Allah. Making it a habit, especially in the morning and evening, ensures we are consistently seeking Allah's protection.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart, raising your hands as you would during supplication. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly internalizing the need for Allah's protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah, and this dua encapsulates a broad spectrum of what we should guard against, including internal maladies like arrogance and self-deception, which are often subtle but destructive.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a profound shield against various forms of spiritual and worldly afflictions. By seeking refuge from the 'vanishing of Your blessings' and 'reversal of well-being,' we acknowledge our dependence on Allah and safeguard against complacency and ingratitude. The plea against 'distress and sorrow,' 'helplessness and laziness,' 'cowardice and stinginess' addresses deep-seated character flaws that hinder spiritual growth and productivity. Crucially, seeking refuge from the 'burden of debt and oppression of men' protects us from external pressures and the crippling effects of having others overpower us, both financially and socially. Arrogance and self-deception are often roots of these issues, as they disconnect us from recognizing our flaws and seeking Allah's aid.
