Dua for the Safe Return of Displaced Muslims

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

O Allah, return us to our homelands with a beautiful return, suffice us with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful, and enrich us with Your grace, making us independent of all except You.

Allahumma raddana ila diyarina raddan jameela, wakfina bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnina bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant for those who have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict, persecution, or natural disasters. It's a supplication to be recited with sincere hope and reliance on Allah for a safe and dignified return. Recite it individually or collectively, perhaps after obligatory prayers, or at times when supplication is especially answered, like during the last third of the night or between the Dhuhr and Asr prayers.

How to Read

Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on the meaning of each word and your deep reliance on Allah. Raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet ﷺ taught us, facing the Qiblah. Believe that Allah has the power to bring about this return and to fulfill your needs. It's also beneficial to combine this with seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) and sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses several profound requests: the return to a homeland ('raddan jameela' implies a safe, comfortable, and honorable return), provision that is lawful and pleasing to Allah, and independence from reliance on creation, which leads to contentment and peace of mind. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Allah is pleased with His servant asking Him for his needs, especially the provision of lawful things.' (Reported by At-Tirmidhi, who graded it Hasan Gharib, and Al-Hakim who graded it Sahih).

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to ask Allah for His favors, and this dua reflects that teaching. While the exact wording might not be a single compiled hadith, its components are rooted in his Sunnah. For instance, the request for lawful provision is a recurring theme. The Prophet ﷺ also made dua for his companions to return to their homes safely. This comprehensive dua encapsulates those vital requests for displaced Muslims.
