Dua for the Protection of the Ummah from the Exploitation of the Powerful

For the Ummah
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1543

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religious and worldly affairs. O Allah, I ask You to conceal my faults and to protect me from what makes me fearful. O Allah, guard me from before me and from behind me, and from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being struck from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya, wa ahli, wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati, wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfazni min bayni yadayya, wa min khalfi, wa 'an yadini, wa 'an shimali, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting when you feel a sense of vulnerability or concern for the wider Muslim community, especially when observing instances of oppression or the powerful taking advantage of others. It's a staple morning and evening supplication, as recommended by the Prophet ﷺ, offering a broad shield of protection.

How to Read

Recite this with sincere conviction, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Imagine Allah's protection encompassing you and the entire Ummah. It’s particularly potent when uttered with a heavy heart, seeking Allah's intervention against injustice. As with all duas, raising your hands slightly can enhance the sense of supplication, though it's not a strict condition.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for Allah's protection across all aspects of life – religious, worldly, personal, and financial. By asking for 'afiyah (well-being and safety), we seek refuge from all forms of harm, including the subtle and overt exploitation by those in positions of power. It is a comprehensive plea for divine safeguarding, ensuring that our vulnerabilities are covered and our fears are allayed. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself taught this dua as a means of broad protection.
