For the Ummah
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud / Sunan Ibn Majah 2603 / 3871

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and secure me against the things that frighten me. O Allah, guard me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your magnificence from being struck from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is perfect for reciting daily, especially in the morning and evening. It's a powerful way to seek Allah's protection for oneself and for the vulnerable members of our community, including women and girls who are often targets of exploitation. Reciting it before embarking on any journey or entering potentially risky situations is also highly recommended.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, visualizing Allah's protective shield surrounding you and those you are praying for. Make sure to pronounce the Arabic words clearly and with proper understanding of their meaning. It is best to raise your hands slightly as you make the supplication, as taught by the Sunnah, and to face the Qiblah if possible. After reciting, beseech Allah specifically for the protection of Muslim women and girls from all forms of harm and exploitation, asking Him to guide and protect them.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a request for complete well-being ('Afiyah), which is a profound blessing from Allah. It seeks protection in both this life and the next, covering our faith, our lives, our families, and our wealth. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to seek refuge from all directions and from unforeseen dangers, highlighting its comprehensive nature for safety and security. By asking for protection against being 'struck from beneath', it includes seeking refuge from sudden calamities and hidden threats. For the Ummah, especially our sisters, this translates to a general plea for Allah's safeguard against those who seek to exploit or harm them, His protection being the ultimate shield.

Source & Authentication

Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate: "Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'azamatika an ughtala min tahti." (He said: 'And from my saying 'an ughtala min tahti' – meaning from being swallowed up by the earth).
