O Allah, I ask You by Your knowledge of the unseen and by Your power over creation, keep me alive so long as You know that life is better for me, and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me. I ask You to make me fear You in secret and in public. I ask You to make me speak the truth in times of contentment and anger. I ask You to make me moderate in wealth and poverty. I ask You for lasting bliss and for the delight of my eyes which shall not cease. I ask You for contentment after the decree, and for a life of coolness after death. I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face, and the longing to meet You, without any hardship or misguiding trials. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, make us guides who are guided, and admit us to the Gardens of Bliss. Forgive us and our brethren who preceded us in faith, and do not let any ill-feeling towards those who believe remain in our hearts. Our Lord, indeed You are Ever-Kind, Most Merciful.
Allahumma inni as'aluka bi'ilmikal-ghaibi wa qudratika 'alal-khalqi, ahyini ma 'alimtal-hayati khayran li, wa tawaffani idha 'alimtal-wafata khayran li, wa as'aluka khashyataka fil-ghaibi wash-shahadati, wa as'aluka kalimatul-haqqi fir-ridha wal-ghadabi, wa as'aluka al-qasda fil-faqri wal-ghina, wa as'aluka na'iman la yanfadu, wa as'aluka qurrata 'aynin la tanqati', wa as'aluka ar-ridha ba'dal-qada'i, wa as'aluka barda al-'ayshi ba'dal-mauti, wa as'aluka ladhdhat-nadhaari ila Wajhik, wash-shawqa ila Liqa'ik, fi ghairi dharra'a mudirratin, wa la fitnatin mudillatin. The Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said: "I did not find any occasion when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited a du'a more frequently than he did when he was sitting, and when he got up. I heard him saying in his sitting and getting up: 'O Allah, I ask You by Your knowledge of the unseen and by Your power over creation, keep me alive so long as You know that life is better for me, and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, and make us guides who are guided, and make us people who are guided.'" (He did not mention in his sitting and getting up except that he said: 'O Allah, forgive me my sins, and the mistakes of my heart, and my commands, and my jests, and my anger, and my jesting, and the evil of what I know, and the evil of what I do not know.')
