O Allah, protect for us our religion which is the safeguard of our affairs, and protect for us our worldly life in which is our livelihood, and protect for us our Hereafter to which is our return. Make the worldly life provision for us of all good, and make death a relief for us from all evil. O Allah, protect for us what You have provided for us and what You have bestowed upon us, and make it strength for us in our religion and our worldly life. And cause us to die as Muslims, and join us with the righteous.
Allahumma ihfadh 'alayna deenana alladhi huwa 'ismatu amrina, wa-hfazh lana dunyaana allati fiha ma'ashuna, wa-hfazh lana akhiratana allati ilayha ma'aduna, waj'aliddunya zaadan lana min kulli khayrin, waj'alil mawta raahatan lana min kulli sharrin, Allahumma ihfadh 'alayna ma razaqtana wa ma an'amta 'alayna, waj'alhu al-quwwata lana fi deenina wa dunyaana, wa tawaffana muslimeen, wa alhiqna bis-salihîn.
When to Read
This supplication is particularly poignant when we reflect on the legacy of Islamic scholarship. Recite it during times of uncertainty regarding the preservation of knowledge, or when witnessing attempts to distort or undermine Islamic traditions. It's a powerful reminder to ask Allah for His divine protection over the very foundations of our faith's intellectual heritage, especially during communal gatherings or when supporting educational initiatives.
How to Read
Begin with Bismillah. Raise your hands, palms facing the sky, as is customary for supplication. Recite with sincerity and a clear intention for the protection of Islamic knowledge and its scholars. Reflect on the meaning of each phrase, truly feeling the need for Allah's guardianship over our deen. It is also beneficial to recite this after Fajr and Asr prayers, as the Prophet ﷺ taught us the importance of these times for supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua asks Allah to safeguard the very essence of our existence: our faith, our worldly sustenance, and our ultimate destination in the Hereafter. By specifically asking for the protection of our 'deen' (religion), we are implicitly invoking His protection over the established scholarly traditions, the authentic transmission of knowledge, and the scholars who dedicate their lives to this noble cause. It imbues the reciter with a sense of responsibility and a reliance on Allah for the continuity of Islamic learning, ensuring that the light of knowledge continues to shine through generations.
