Dua for the Health of the Planet and Protection from Pollution

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, we seek refuge in You from the demise of Your favors, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your wrath, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inna na'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting during times of reflection, after prayers, or whenever you feel concern for the state of our environment. It's particularly poignant when witnessing pollution, natural disasters, or signs of environmental imbalance, reminding us of our dependence on Allah's protection.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of concern for Allah's creation. Raise your hands as you would in any other supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Utter the words clearly, focusing on the meaning and the plea for Allah's divine intervention. It's beneficial to reflect on the immense blessings Allah has bestowed upon us through the natural world and the consequences of our negligence.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua doesn't directly mention environmental degradation, its profound meaning encompasses seeking refuge from the loss of blessings and the onset of divine displeasure. Environmental degradation and pollution can be seen as manifestations of Allah's displeasure or a consequence of our failure to be grateful for and protect His creation. By reciting this, we are seeking Allah's protection from the overall decline that such issues represent, safeguarding ourselves and the Ummah from the ill effects of a damaged planet. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us comprehensive duas that cover all aspects of life, and seeking refuge from the removal of blessings and the arrival of wrath is a foundational protection for all that we cherish, including the very environment that sustains us.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inna nas'aluka min faja'ati khayrik, wa a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa 'iqabi niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.' (O Allah, we ask of You the suddenness of Your good, and we seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.) Then he said: 'It is a supplication which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to supplicate with.'
