A Powerful Du'a for the Help and Victory of the Oppressed Ummah

For the Ummah
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 2967

O Allah, save the weak believers in every land and place. O Allah, suffice us with Your lawful provision instead of Your forbidden one, and enrich us with Your grace, so that we may not need to ask from anyone besides You.

Allahumma anjil mustad'afeena minal mu'mineena fee kulli ardin wa makan. Allahummakfina iyyahum bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnina bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This du'a is profoundly relevant whenever we witness or hear about the suffering and oppression of our brothers and sisters across the globe. It's a beautiful supplication to make during personal prayers (salah), after obligatory prayers, during times of hardship, or even as a consistent personal litany (wird) for the well-being of the Ummah.

How to Read

Recite this du'a with sincerity and a heartfelt plea to Allah (SWT). Raise your hands in supplication, as this is a sunnah when making du'a. Focus on the meaning and the desperate need for Allah's intervention for those who are suffering. Imagine the faces of those who are oppressed and let that fuel your earnestness. Believe in Allah's power to change their circumstances.

Virtues & Benefits

This du'a encapsulates a deep sense of brotherhood and sisterhood within the Ummah. By asking Allah to save the weak and oppressed, we are fulfilling a spiritual obligation to care for one another. The second part of the du'a, asking for Allah's lawful provision and sufficiency, reflects reliance on Him alone and a desire to remain independent of creation. It reminds us that true wealth and security come only from Allah, encouraging us to seek His help directly rather than relying on uncertain means. Making du'a for others is also a source of immense reward, as the angels pray for us in return, as mentioned in Sahih Muslim.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "There is no Muslim who supplicates for his brother [in his absence] but the angel says: 'And for you is the like of it.'" (Sahih Muslim 7073, referencing a similar concept). Another related narration from Sunan At-Tirmidhi states: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "There are three whose du'a is not turned back: The fasting person until he breaks his fast, the just leader, and the supplication of the oppressed which the clouds are raised above them, and the gates of heaven are opened for it, and the Lord says: 'By My Might, I will surely help you, even if it is after some time.'" (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3598, Sahih). While the specific du'a above is not directly quoted as a prayer *of* the oppressed, it is a supplication *for* them, invoking the same spirit of seeking Allah's direct intervention for those in need. The du'a taught by the Prophet (ﷺ) himself to seek Allah's help and provision embodies the essence of self-reliance on Allah, as taught in the Sunnah.
