O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and secure me against what I fear. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being taken from beneath me.
Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimalee wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is a powerful supplication for general protection and well-being. It is particularly relevant when we think of the vulnerable members of our community, such as orphans and widows, and ask Allah to extend His protection and care to them through this supplication for ourselves and by extension, for all who are in need.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. It is recommended to raise your hands, especially when asking Allah for protection and well-being. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing the plea for Allah's encompassing protection for yourself and by extension, for those dear to you and the wider community, including orphans and widows.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a complete request for 'afiyah, which means complete well-being, encompassing safety from all harm and attainment of all good, both in this life and the next. By seeking this for ourselves, we are cultivating a state of reliance on Allah and acknowledging His power to protect and sustain. This mindset naturally extends to concern for others, making us more inclined to pray for the protection and welfare of the most vulnerable, like orphans and widows, as commanded by our faith. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that 'The best house among the Muslims is one which contains an orphan who is well-treated, and the worst house among the Muslims is one which contains an orphan who is ill-treated' (Sahih Ibn Majah 3679). This dua serves as a means to strengthen ourselves so we may better uphold the rights and care for those in need.
