A Plea for Steadfastness: Dua for the Ummah's Resilience Against Secularism

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 971

O Allah, unite our hearts, and reconcile the differences between us. Guide us to the paths of peace. Deliver us from the darkness into the light. Keep us away from all shameful deeds, whether open or hidden. Bless our hearing, our sight, our hearts, our spouses, and our offspring. Turn to us in repentance; indeed, You are the Ever-Returning, the Most Merciful.

Allahumma allif bayna qulubina, wa aslih dhata baynina, wahdina subulas-salam, wa najjina minaz-zulumaati ilan-nur, wa jannibnal-fawaahisha ma dhahara minha wa ma batan, wa barik lana fi asmaa'ina, wa absaarina, wa qulubina, wa azwaajina, wa dhurriyyatina, wa tub 'alayna, innaka antat-Tawwabur-Raheem.

When to Read

This comprehensive supplication is perfect for moments when we feel the pull of societal norms away from our deen, or witness its effects on our communities. Recite it during the quiet hours of the night, after salah, or whenever you feel a deep concern for the spiritual well-being of the Ummah.

How to Read

Raise your hands, palms facing upwards, as is the sunnah when making dua. Begin with the praises of Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Utter this dua with sincerity and heartfelt conviction, focusing on each phrase and its meaning. Visualize Allah's mercy encompassing the Ummah as you pray. End by wiping your hands over your face.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his companions, addresses critical aspects of communal strength and spiritual resilience. It seeks Allah's help in fostering unity (allif bayna qulubina), resolving disputes (aslih dhata baynina), and guiding us towards the straight path (wahdina subulas-salam). It acknowledges our human weakness and seeks protection from moral decay (jannibnal-fawaahisha) and spiritual blindness, asking for illumination (najjina minaz-zulumaati ilan-nur). The inclusion of blessings for our families and offspring highlights the importance of a strong, faith-based household in maintaining the Ummah's character across generations.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no servant who suffers a calamity in this world and says: 'Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,' but that he will be forgiven for that which is in the earth, or for sins, even if they are like the foam of the sea. And he who says: 'Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,' forty times, Allah will forgive him forty thousand of his evil deeds. And the Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no servant who, when afflicted with trials, says: 'Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,' except that Allah gives him a reward equal to the number of the sand and pebbles.' And the Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no servant who, when afflicted with trials, says: 'Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,' except that Allah removes from him what He wills of afflictions, and that He makes for him a light, and that He writes for him, at the time of his death, a letter which says: 'There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.' And Allah brings him forth from his grave on the Day of Resurrection in the form of a man, and he (the man) is shining, and there is written upon his forehead: 'He is from the saved ones.' And the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, unite our hearts, and reconcile the differences between us. And make us thankful for Your blessings, and make us independent of others.' And he said: 'And give us contentment with what You have given us, and grant us righteousness in what remains of our lives.' And he said: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the extinction of Your favors, and from the change of Your protection, and from the suddenness of Your vengeance, and from all Your displeasure.'
