A Merciful Dua for Troubled Hearts

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2713

O Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, our Lord and the Lord of all things, the Cleaver of the grain and the date-stone, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an. I seek refuge in You from the evil of every creature that You are seizing by its forelock. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You; You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; You are the Most显 (az-Zahir), so there is nothing above You; You are the Most Hidden (al-Batin), so there is nothing nearer than You. Discharge our debt and make us free from want.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati wa Rabba al-ard, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', Faliq al-habbi wa an-nawa, wa Munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injili wal-Furqan, a'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun bi-nasiyatihi. Allahumma anta al-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay', wa anta al-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay', wa anta adh-Dhahiru falaysa fawqaka shay', wa anta al-Batinu falaysa duna ka shay', iqdi 'anna daynana wa aghnina min al-faqr.

This dua encompasses seeking Allah's protection from all perceived and unperceived evils. By acknowledging Allah as the Lord of everything and the One who controls all affairs, it instills a deep sense of trust (tawakkul). The request to be freed from debt and want is not just material; it can also signify freedom from overwhelming burdens, anxieties, and the weight of worries that trouble the mind and soul. Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my wealth has become scarce and my affairs have become complicated. He said: Do you want me to teach you words that, if you utter them, Allah will remove your worries and complexities and pay off your debt?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: Say in the morning and in the evening: O Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, our Lord and the Lord of all things, the Cleaver of the grain and the date-stone, and the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur'an, I seek refuge in You from the evil of every creature that You are seizing by its forelock. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You; You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; You are the Most显 (az-Zahir), so there is nothing above You; You are the Most Hidden (al-Batin), so there is nothing nearer than You. Discharge our debt and make us free from want.' He said: 'So I did that, and Allah removed my worries and paid off my debt.'
