A Heartfelt Plea for the Ummah: Overcoming Complacency and Rekindling Devotion

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2654

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ وَ عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ

O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion and upon Your obedience.

Ya muqalliba al-qulubi, thabbit qalbi 'ala dinika wa 'ala ta'atika.

When to Read

This is a deeply personal and potent dua that can be recited at any time, especially during the profound stillness of the night (Qiyam al-Layl) or after prayers. It's particularly relevant when we feel a spiritual dip, witness a lack of conviction in ourselves or others, or observe a general sense of heedlessness creeping into the Ummah. Recite it whenever you feel the need to strengthen your connection to Allah and His deen, and to pray for that same strength for your brothers and sisters.

How to Read

The beauty of this dua lies in its direct appeal to Allah, the Ultimate Controller of all hearts. Raise your hands in supplication, directing your full attention and sincerity towards Him. Utter these words with a sincere heart, truly feeling the weight of the words 'O Turner of the hearts.' Visualize your heart being anchored firmly to the deen and to obeying Allah. It's often recommended to repeat it multiple times, especially during prostration in prayer. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would often repeat such supplications for emphasis and sincerity.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, uttered by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, is a powerful reminder of our utter dependence on Allah for steadfastness. Complacency can be a subtle yet dangerous spiritual ailment, dulling our senses to our purpose and our connection to our Creator. This dua directly counters that by seeking Allah's help to keep our hearts alive and vibrant in faith. It fosters humility, acknowledging that faith is not static but requires constant nurturing and divine support. By reciting it, we are not only asking for our own spiritual well-being but also implicitly praying for the collective strength and devotion of the entire Ummah.
