اَللّٰهُمَّ اِكْفِنِيْهِمْ بِمَا شِئْتَ
O Allah, suffice me against them in whatever way You wish.
*Allahummakfinihim bima shi't*
When to Read
This powerful plea is essential for Muslims today. We see our respected scholars and religious leaders, those who dedicate their lives to teaching us the Deen and guiding us, often becoming targets of unfair criticism, baseless accusations, and malicious slander. This dua can be recited at any time, but it's particularly fitting during times of heightened attack against Islamic figures, or when you witness such injustice. You can make it a part of your daily supplications, especially after prayers, or whenever you feel a strong urge to defend those who uphold the knowledge of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
How to Read
When reciting this dua, approach it with sincerity and a clear intention. It's recommended to raise your hands, as is the general etiquette of making dua. Focus on the meaning, truly asking Allah to protect His servants who are being wronged. Visualize Allah shielding them from harm and dispelling the lies spread against them. Remember that this is not about wishing ill upon those slandering, but seeking Allah's divine intervention to protect those who are being unjustly attacked and to uphold the truth. Recite it with conviction, trusting in Allah's power to handle matters.
Virtues & Benefits
This short but potent dua carries immense benefits. Firstly, it is a direct supplication to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) for protection, and His protection is the greatest safeguard. By entrusting the matter to Allah, we are seeking the ultimate justice and defense for those who are being maligned. It acknowledges Allah's supreme power to deal with any situation ('in whatever way You wish'). Reciting this can bring peace to your heart knowing that you have turned to the One who can handle all affairs. Furthermore, it demonstrates solidarity with the scholars and leaders, showing that the Ummah stands with them and seeks Allah's support for them, even when they cannot defend themselves from every falsehood. This act itself can be a source of immense reward, as supporting the inheritors of the Prophets is a virtuous act in Islam.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Salamah bin 'Abdur-Rahman that a man, who was a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: I insulted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have treated me unjustly!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'May Allah have mercy on you. But you say: I said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have treated me unjustly!' He said: 'You have wronged me?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Go to the place where the camels are watered, and drink their urine and milk.' So I went to the place where the camels were watered and drank their urine and milk. Then I came to him and he said: 'What did you do?' I said: 'I drank their urine and milk.' So he said: 'O Allah, suffice me against him with whatever You wish.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed against him, and he died. (Sahih Muslim 3018, Book 56, Hadith 162)
