A Dua for the Protection of Muslim Migrants and Refugees

For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 3017

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَجْعَلُكَ فِي نُحُورِهِمْ وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ

O Allah, we ask You to protect us from them and seek refuge in You from their evils.

Allahumma inna naj'aluka fi nuhurihim wa na'udhu bika min shururihim

When to Read

This powerful dua is for times of fear and uncertainty, particularly when facing hardship or the potential harm from others. It is deeply relevant for Muslim migrants and refugees who may be in precarious situations, seeking safety, or dealing with hostility. Recite it when you feel threatened, when planning a journey into uncertain territory, or whenever you wish to invoke Allah's direct protection against any perceived danger, whether from individuals, groups, or circumstances.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua during a specific moment of confrontation. When reciting it, one should ideally face the direction of the perceived threat (if applicable and safe to do so) and say it with sincere conviction, understanding that ultimate protection comes only from Allah. It's about acknowledging our own vulnerability and Allah's absolute power to safeguard us. The emphasis is on direct appeal to Allah, placing trust in Him while actively seeking His shield. Try to say it with focused intention, picturing Allah's protection enveloping you and those you are praying for.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates two profound aspects of faith: reliance on Allah and seeking His refuge. By saying 'Allahumma inna naj'aluka fi nuhurihim' (O Allah, we ask You to protect us from them), we are placing the 'enemy' or the perceived threat directly in front of Allah, acknowledging that He is their ultimate controller and our ultimate protector. The second part, 'wa na'udhu bika min shururihim' (and seek refuge in You from their evils), is a direct plea for divine protection against any harm they might intend or cause. This hadith, narrated in Sahih Muslim, illustrates how the Prophet ﷺ himself used this supplication when facing the aggression of a hostile group, showing its effectiveness in seeking protection from tangible threats. For migrants and refugees, this dua is a source of immense strength and solace, reminding them that even in the most vulnerable of situations, Allah is their guardian.
