A Dua for Mending the Ummah's Spiritual Wounds

For the Ummah
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4916

O Allah, mend that which is between them, unite their hearts, guide them to the ways of peace, and bring them forth from darkness into light.

Allahumma aslih dzaata baynihim wa allif bayna qulubihim wahdihim subulas-salam wa akhrijhum minadh-dhulumati ilan-nur

When to Read

This powerful supplication is most fitting when we witness disunity, strife, or misunderstanding within the Muslim community, whether on a large scale or within our immediate circles. Recite it during times of reflection, after prayers, or during special occasions where unity is especially needed.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, visualizing the hearts of the Ummah coming together in harmony. It's best to raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us, and to call upon Allah with hope and a firm belief in His power to unite and guide us. Ensure you pronounce the Arabic clearly, focusing on the meaning behind each word.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the divisions that weaken the Ummah, asking Allah to restore harmony and peace. By seeking unity, we are upholding a core principle of our faith, as the Prophet ﷺ famously said, 'The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6011). This dua helps us actively contribute to that collective well-being.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Allah the Almighty commanded me to draw together the hearts of the people (of Medina) and to establish peace among them.' [This hadith is slightly different but conveys the essence of seeking peace and unity, which this dua embodies. The specific wording of the dua is a widely taught supplication for unity, often attributed to seeking Allah's help in resolving disputes and fostering brotherhood.] The dua itself is a comprehensive plea for reconciliation and guidance, reflecting the spirit of prophetic teachings on unity.
