For the Ummah
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and grief, and I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking refuge from some of the most debilitating internal and external struggles. By seeking Allah's protection from 'distress and grief' (al-hamm wal-hazan), we acknowledge our limitations and His infinite power to ease our hearts. Protection from 'helplessness and laziness' ('ajz wal-kasal) allows us to remain active and resilient in seeking solutions and fulfilling our responsibilities. Seeking refuge from 'cowardice and stinginess' (al-jubn wal-buhl) helps foster courage and generosity within ourselves and the Ummah. Finally, seeking protection from 'the burden of debt and the subjugation of men' (ghalabatid-dayn wa qahrir-rijal) asks Allah to free us from financial burdens that can weigh heavily and from oppression that can crush the spirit. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, indicating its immense value in seeking Allah's comprehensive care for our spiritual and worldly well-being.
