Travel
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342a

Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it by ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we shall return. O Allah, we ask You on this journey of ours for goodness and piety, and for such deeds as are pleasing to You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and roll up the distance for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor in the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, the sorrow of the sight, and the evil of my stay in (my absence) concerning my property and my family.

Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha watwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma Antas-sahibu fis-safari wal-khalifatu fil-ahli. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'thais-safari wa ka'abatil-manzhari wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahli.

Source & Authentication

When 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) set out for battle, he said: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, the sorrow of the sight, and the evil of my stay in (my absence) concerning my property and my family.' When he returned, he said: 'O Allah, we have returned seeking forgiveness, repentant, to our Lord, and to You we shall return.' It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) used to say, when he set out on a journey: > **Arabic:** سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ > **Translation:** "Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it by ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we shall return." And when he returned, he would recite this: > **Arabic:** ‏آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ ‏ > **Translation:** "We are returning, repentant, worshipping, to our Lord, praising." This version of the dua upon arrival emphasizes the gratitude and acknowledgement of Allah's blessing, which is a core theme when reaching a destination.
