O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this journey and the goodness of what it contains, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this journey and the evil of what it contains. O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of the land and the goodness of the sea, and the goodness of the earth and the goodness of the sky, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of Satan and the evil of deeds.

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Nafi‘ from Ibn ‘Umar that when the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, set out on a journey, he would say: 'Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar' (Allah is Greater, Allah is Greater, Allah is Greater). Then he would say: 'Subhana alladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen. Wa inna ila Rabbina la-munqaliboon.' (Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we were not capable of it. And to our Lord we are returning). Then he would say: 'Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wa at-taqwa, wa minal-'amali ma tarḍa. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha wa-ḍwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma anta as-sahibu fi-s-safar, wal-khalifatu fi-l-ahl. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'athi as-safari wa ka'abi al-manẓari wa sui al-munqalabi fi-l-mali wal-ahl.' (O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and taqwa in this journey of ours, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor in the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of the journey, and from seeing a terrible sight, and from an evil outcome in property and family). And when he returned, he would recite these words and say: 'Ayibuna, ta'ibuna, 'abiduna, li-Rabbina hamidun.' (We are returners, repenters, worshippers, to our Lord we are praiseful). (Malik narrated it from Nafi‘ from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said this when he set out and when he returned.) *Note: While the main dua provided focuses on seeking goodness and refuge, the accompanying hadith offers a broader set of supplications for travel, including seeking ease and protection for family left behind. This entry focuses on the core supplication for the traveler themselves as requested.*
