Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4918

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and whatever they overshadow, Lord of the seven earths and whatever they carry, Lord of the devils and whatever they lead astray, Lord of the winds and whatever they scatter, I ask You for the goodness of this village/town, and the goodness of its people, and the goodness of all that is within it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of its people, and the evil of all that is within it.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azallat, wa Rabba al-aradeen as-sab'i wa ma aqallat, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adallat, wa Rabba ar-riyah wa ma dharat, as'aluka khaira hadhihi al-qaryah, wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited when arriving at a new town, village, or even a significant new location, like a new city or country. It’s a beautiful way to begin your experience in an unfamiliar place by entrusting yourself and seeking Allah's blessings for your stay.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention of seeking Allah's protection and favor. Utter the words with conviction as you enter the new land. Reflect on each part of the dua: acknowledging Allah's dominion over all creation and humbly asking for the best and seeking refuge from any potential harm.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua offers immense benefits. It's a direct appeal to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) for His protection and provision in a new environment. By seeking the 'khair' (goodness) of the place and its inhabitants, you are essentially asking Allah to make your stay beneficial and free from trouble. Conversely, seeking refuge from its 'sharr' (evil) is a powerful shield against unseen harms. This practice embodies Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and acknowledges His ultimate control over all affairs, bringing peace of mind and security.

Source & Authentication

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Abu az-Zinad, from al-A'raj, from Abu Hurayrah that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, 'When one of you travels and alights in a place, let him say: 'Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azallat, wa Rabba al-aradeen as-sab'i wa ma aqallat, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adallat, wa Rabba ar-riyah wa ma dharat, as'aluka khaira hadhihi al-qaryah, wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.' (Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azallat, wa Rabba al-aradeen as-sab'i wa ma aqallat, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adallat, wa Rabba ar-riyah wa ma dharat, as'aluka khaira hadhihi al-qaryah, wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.) So when he says that, he will be protected from its evil and what is in it.
