Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 110:2084

O Allah, I ask You for its [the place/land] goodness and the goodness of what You have destined for it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have destined for it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma jabaltaha 'alayhi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha 'alayhi

When to Read

This dua is recited when entering a new town or region, especially when one is seeking a righteous spouse in that new environment. It's a beautiful supplication to seek Allah's blessings and protection upon the place and to ask for His guidance in finding a suitable partner. It can be recited upon arrival or while actively looking for a spouse.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Face the Qiblah if possible, or at least turn towards it. Raise your hands, placing the right hand on the left and then placing the right hand on the chest, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when making dua for rain. Ensure you pronounce the Arabic clearly and understand its meaning.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encapsulates seeking the best from Allah for a new environment and protection from its potential ills. When seeking a spouse, reciting this dua imbues the search with spiritual significance, asking Allah to bless the new land with good and to guide you to a righteous spouse within it. It's a way of entrusting your affairs to Allah and seeking His divine assistance in one of life's most important decisions.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet ﷺ went to a town he disliked, he would say: "Allahumma inna naj'aluka fi nuhuri a'da'ina wa na'udhu bika min shururihim." When he went to a town he liked, he would say: "Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ahliha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha." (This version is found in Sunan Abi Dawud, but the meaning is captured in the version from Sahih Muslim used above, which is more general for entering a place). The version provided in the entry is specifically for seeking the goodness of the place itself and what is destined for it, which applies to finding a spouse there.
