Success
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4522

اللَّهُمَّ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

"Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."

Allahumma atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina 'adhaban-nar

When to Read

This is a profound supplication that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would frequently make. You can recite it at any time, especially during the blessed times like after prayers, on Fridays, or when making earnest dua. It's particularly fitting when you feel the weight of life's responsibilities or when seeking Allah's blessings for your endeavors in both this world and the next.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as is customary when making dua. Focus on the meaning of each word, truly asking Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for the best in both realms. Visualize the 'goodness' you are asking for – success, well-being, contentment, and protection from all harm and punishment.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the ultimate desire of a believer: a life well-lived on Earth and eternal bliss in the Hereafter. By asking for 'hasanah' (goodness) in this world, we seek success in our affairs, good health, righteous companions, beneficial knowledge, and peace. In the Hereafter, 'hasanah' encompasses entering Paradise, being pleased with Allah, and avoiding His wrath. The Prophet ﷺ himself, despite his elevated status, constantly made this dua, teaching us its immense importance. This supplication covers all aspects of a believer's life, ensuring we are not neglecting our eternal destination while striving for worldly well-being.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet ﷺ used to say: 'Allahumma atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina 'adhaban-nar' (Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire).' This dua is also mentioned in the Quran as the supplication of the believers (Al-Baqarah 2:201).
