Success
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3833

اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي وَزِدْنِي عِلْمًا

O Allah, make beneficial for me what You have taught me, teach me that which will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge.

Allahumma anfa'ni bima 'allamtani wa 'allimni ma yanfa'uni wa zidni 'ilma

This is a powerful supplication to recite before, during, or after studying the Quran, or at any time you seek deeper understanding and the ability to act upon its teachings. It's particularly good to say after completing a study session or when you feel stuck in comprehending a verse or applying its message to your life.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart, ideally after performing Wudu (ablution). Imagine yourself asking the Creator of the Quran for divine assistance in grasping its profound wisdom and having the strength to implement its guidance in your daily actions. Reflect on each part of the dua: asking for benefit from existing knowledge, seeking new beneficial knowledge, and requesting an increase in that knowledge.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the core needs for understanding and implementing the Quran: beneficial knowledge and the ability to utilize it. By asking Allah to make what we know beneficial, we're seeking practical application and positive impact. Asking to be taught what benefits us is a plea for guidance towards the most valuable insights from the Quran. Requesting an increase in knowledge ensures continuous growth and a deeper connection with Allah's word. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself taught this dua, highlighting its immense value for those who strive to connect with the Quran.

Source & Authentication

The hadith mentions that Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) taught this dua to his students. He said: 'When you are given knowledge, you are given a great treasure. However, the treasure is not in its possession, but in its implementation.' He then taught them this supplication: 'Allahumma anfa'ni bima 'allamtani wa 'allimni ma yanfa'uni wa zidni 'ilma.' (O Allah, make beneficial for me what You have taught me, teach me that which will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge.) — Sunan Ibn Majah 3833.
