Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

Recite this dua before beginning any creative endeavor, whether it's writing, painting, composing, or any other form of artistic expression. It's particularly potent when seeking clarity, focus, and the ability to produce work that is both meaningful and pleasing to Allah.

How to Read

Recite with sincere intention and a clear heart, focusing on seeking Allah's help and guidance in your artistic pursuits. Visualize the outcome you desire: knowledge that benefits, provision that is lawful and pure, and work that is accepted. Raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us for seeking knowledge and general supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua asks for three crucial elements for success in any endeavor, including artistic ones: 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('ilman nafi'an):** In art, this means insight, understanding of your craft, and the ability to convey meaningful messages. Knowledge that benefits is that which leads to good and is utilized for righteous purposes. 2. **Good Provision (rizqan tayyiban):** This includes the means to pursue your art – time, resources, and perhaps even financial support – that are lawful and wholesome. It also encompasses the 'rizq' of inspiration itself, flowing from a pure source. 3. **Accepted Deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan):** This is the ultimate goal – that your artistic creations are not only skillful but also pleasing to Allah. It means your work contributes positively to the world, glorifies your Creator, and is recognized by Him as good and valuable. The acceptance of deeds is contingent upon sincerity (ikhlas) and following the Sunnah, which applies to artistic endeavors as well.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 925). This supplication was often made by the Prophet ﷺ in the morning, seeking blessings for the day's efforts.
