O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. If You intend to try people through a trial, then take me to Yourself without being tried. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'la khayratik, wa tark munakaratik, wa hubbal masakin, wa an taghfir li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan fa tawaffani ilayka ghayra maftun, wa as'aluka hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for spiritual success. It asks Allah to help us perform good deeds and refrain from evil, fostering a righteous life. Loving the poor reflects compassion and humility, qualities beloved by Allah. The request to be taken back to Allah before being afflicted by trials shows a deep yearning for His protection and presence. Ultimately, it seeks Allah's love, the love of those who love Him, and the love of actions that draw us closer to Him, which is the very essence of spiritual enlightenment and proximity.

Source & Authentication

Al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to do seven things and forbade us from seven things. He commanded us to attend funerals, to visit the sick, to accept invitations, to spread the salam, to help the oppressed, to answer the caller (to prayer), and to fulfill oaths. He forbade us from wearing silk, gold, brocade, and fine silk, and from drinking wine and wearing silk garments. Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. If You intend to try people through a trial, then take me to Yourself without being tried. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.' He said: This is a Hadith Hasan Gharib.
