O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my sperm.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri maniyyi.
When to Read
This is a powerful dua to recite regularly, especially during the times you make dua, or as part of your daily supplications after salah. By seeking refuge in Allah from the 'evil of my heart,' we are directly asking Him to purify our intentions and protect us from falling into the trap of showing off our deeds or harboring ill will.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Visualize the protection of Allah enveloping your senses, your tongue, your heart, and all aspects of your being. Ensure you understand the meaning and let it resonate within you. It's best recited in Arabic, as transmitted, but if you are learning, focus on the sincere intention behind the English translation.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses seeking protection from the corruption that can arise from our senses and internal states. The 'evil of my heart' is directly related to nifaq, which manifests as a discrepancy between outward appearance and inward belief or intention. By asking Allah to protect our hearts, we are safeguarding ourselves from the very root of hypocrisy. Allah's Messenger ﷺ taught us to seek refuge from all forms of evil, both apparent and hidden.
