اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, instead of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask from anyone other than You.
Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak
When to Read
This is a profound dua that can be recited during times of financial hardship and when facing significant debt. It's particularly potent when uttered after obligatory prayers, during the last third of the night, or at any time you feel the need to turn to Allah for assistance.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and firm conviction in Allah's ability to provide. Focus on the meaning, understanding that true wealth and sufficiency come only from Him. It's recommended to raise your hands in supplication, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and to repeat the dua multiple times for emphasis. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, and face the Qiblah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah for two crucial things: lawful provision and independence from needing to rely on creation. By seeking lawful sustenance, one avoids the sin of unlawful earnings, and by asking for sufficiency through Allah's grace, one achieves true contentment and freedom from the need to beg or be indebted. It embodies Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and contentment with His decree.
Source & Authentication
Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a muba'ath (a slave who was given freedom on condition of paying a certain sum) came to him and said: 'I am unable to pay for my freedom, so help me.' Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught me? If you were to have the equivalent of a mountain of debt, Allah would pay it off for you. Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful (provision) instead of Your unlawful (provision), and make me, by Your grace, independent of all save You.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563). This hadith was classified as Hasan by At-Tirmidhi.
