اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي

Allahumma ihdini wa saddidni
When to Read
This powerful, concise dua is perfect for reciting when you are embarking on a new spiritual journey, such as converting to Islam, or taking on a significant new role within the Muslim community. Whether it's stepping into leadership, joining a new mosque, or even starting a new phase in your personal practice, uncertainty can creep in. Recite this before meetings, during times of contemplation, or anytime you need Allah's direction.
How to Read
With sincerity and a focused heart, raise your hands slightly (if able) and say this dua. Imagine Allah's guidance enveloping you, providing clarity and steadfastness. It’s about acknowledging your reliance on Him for success in whatever new path you tread.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking divine assistance for both direction and correctness in one's actions. 'Hudni' (guide me) asks for the right path, while 'saddidni' (set me right/make me straight) asks for the strength and precision to stay on that path and act correctly. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often supplicate with variations of this dua, highlighting its importance for seeking Allah's help in all endeavors, especially those involving significant life changes or responsibilities.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Abdullah: While the Prophet ﷺ was praying, he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, righteousness, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' And in another narration: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance and set me on the right path and make me self-sufficient, and keep me from want.' (Sahih Muslim 2725). Though this hadith is about general supplication for guidance and self-sufficiency, the core request of 'ihdini wa saddidni' is universally applicable for any significant endeavor requiring Allah's blessing and direction.
