O Allah, make me a guide who is guided, and do not make me one who goes astray or causes others to go astray. Make me a peacemaker for Your allies, and an enemy to Your enemies. Make me beloved to Your creation, and hated by anything that is from You. Make me longing for Your Paradise, and eager for Your pleasure. Grant me refuge from Your punishment, and from the punishment of the grave, and from Hellfire. Save me from the punishment of the Fire, and from Your anger, and from Your displeasure. Admit me to Paradise by Your mercy. Marry me to dark-eyed houris. Grant me the privilege of performing Hajj to Your Sacred House and 'Umrah, in well-being and health. Let me reach the plains of 'Arafat. Make me obedient to Your command, and let me follow the Sunnah of Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Accept his intercession. Benefit me with what You have taught me, and increase me in knowledge. Grant me a clear victory. Help me to remember You, to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best manner. Guide me to Your straight path. Protect me from all evil. Grant me lawful and pure sustenance. Place light in my heart, and light in my hearing, and light in my sight, and light in my tongue. Place light behind me, and in front of me, and above me, and beneath me, and on my right, and on my left. Make me light itself. Make my light in my grave, and my light on the Day of Resurrection, and light upon the Sirat (bridge), and light in Paradise, and light in my worldly and otherworldly needs. Amin.

When to Read
This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting at any time you feel a deep desire to make a positive impact. It's particularly fitting at the start of a new endeavor, when seeking guidance for your actions, or during times of reflection on your role in society. It can be recited in the morning to set a positive intention for the day, or in the evening to seek strength for future efforts.
How to Read
Begin with the intention (niyyah) of seeking Allah's help and guidance to be a source of good. Recite with sincerity, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Raise your hands as you would in any supplication, after Salah or at other appropriate times. Ensure you are in a state of purity (wudu) if possible, and face the Qiblah. Remember that Allah loves to hear His servants calling upon Him, so pour your heart out in supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a profound request for Allah's assistance in fulfilling a noble aim: to be a beacon of guidance and benefit to others. By asking to be 'hadiyan mahdiyyan' (a guide who is guided), one seeks Allah's grace to embody the teachings of Islam and inspire others through one's actions and words. It encompasses seeking Allah's protection from misguidance, asking for strength to be a force for good, and desiring closeness to Him and His Paradise. The request for 'light' in various aspects of one's being and surroundings symbolizes spiritual illumination, clear understanding, and a path free from darkness and confusion.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say: 'O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, grant me well-being among those whom You have granted well-being, take me as a guardian among those whom You have taken as a guardian, bless me in what You have bestowed, and save me from the evil of what You have decreed. For You decree and no one decrees against You, and indeed he is not humiliated whom You do not take as an ally. Blessed art Thou, O our Lord, and Exalted.' (This is the dua for seeking good after obligatory prayer). The Prophet (peace be upon him) also used to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1425, this version is slightly different but the theme of seeking guidance and good is present. The requested dua is a comprehensive supplication that captures the essence of seeking to be a beneficial influence, drawing from the spirit of various authentic supplications taught by the Prophet ﷺ).
