اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, for goodly provision, and for deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This is a beautiful general dua taught by the Prophet ﷺ to be recited after Fajr prayer. You can make it a habit to recite it daily, then make specific supplications for your spouse's protection from financial strain and stress immediately after. It's also appropriate to make this dua anytime you feel worried about your spouse's well-being, particularly when financial pressures arise.

How to Read

Recite this supplication sincerely, with conviction in Allah's power to respond. Focus on the meaning of the words: seeking beneficial knowledge that guides us, pure and lawful sustenance, and deeds that are accepted by our Creator. After reciting this, you can then add your personal supplication for your spouse, asking Allah to ease their burdens, provide for them, and grant them contentment, for example: 'O Allah, protect my spouse from financial hardship and the stress it brings. Grant them sufficient provision and ease their affairs.' Raising your hands during the supplication (du'a) is also a sunnah, especially when asking Allah for something specific.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking three crucial aspects for a fulfilling life: beneficial knowledge that guides us in this world and the next, pure and lawful sustenance (rizq tayyib) which is a means of acceptance of deeds and protection from sin, and accepted deeds which are the ultimate goal of our worship. By making this general dua and then specifically asking for your spouse's protection, you are seeking Allah's help in multiple beneficial ways for both of you. The Prophet ﷺ said about this dua: 'If he dies at that time, he will die upon [the fulfillment of] what is pure.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 925). Seeking lawful provision is a continuous need, and praying for it for our spouse is an act of love and care.
