Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5074

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religious and worldly affairs, my family and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being attacked from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal-'afiyata fi deeni wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa aamin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi, wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimali, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his uncle Al-'Abbas, covers a vast spectrum of protection. By asking for 'Afiyah (well-being), we encompass protection from all forms of harm, including physical illness, mental distress, and importantly, reputational damage through slander and false accusations. Allah's protection is the ultimate shield against the machinations of those who seek to harm others through lies. Protecting one's spouse is a significant act of love and responsibility in Islam.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to Al-'Abbas, the uncle of Allah's Messenger: 'O Abbas, O my uncle, ask Allah for 'Afiyah in this world and the Hereafter. O Abbas, O my uncle, you are my uncle and have a right (to maintain relations). I am asking Allah for 'Afiyah for you. So ask Allah for 'Afiyah. Sunan Abi Dawud narrated it (4/345), and its chain of narration is Hasan.
