O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and determination in righteousness. I ask You for the things that bring about Your mercy, and the means that guarantee Your forgiveness. I ask You to enable me to be grateful for Your favors and to worship You in the best manner. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil You know. I seek Your forgiveness for what You know. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-thabat fil-amr, wal-'azimah 'alar-rushd, wa as'aluka muujibaati rahmatik, wa hawazima maghfiratik, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik, wa husna 'ibaadatik, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan saadiqan, wa as'aluka min khayri ma ta'lam, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lam, innaka anta 'allamul-ghuyub.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is perfect for when you see your spouse struggling to speak up for what's right, or when you fear they might be tempted to compromise their values. It's also a beautiful dua to make regularly for your spouse's spiritual strength and integrity, especially in challenging times.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction, focusing on your spouse's well-being and their ability to uphold truth. Raising your hands can be a sign of earnest pleading, though it's not a strict requirement for this specific dua. It's best recited during times when you can focus, perhaps after Fajr prayer or during the last third of the night.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for a dua to recite in prayer, directly asks Allah for the qualities needed to stand firm for truth: steadfastness, determination in righteousness, mercy, forgiveness, gratitude, excellent worship, a sound heart, and a truthful tongue. These are precisely the attributes needed for anyone, including your spouse, to courageously champion justice and truth, even when it's difficult.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet (ﷺ) asked Abu Bakr: "What do you want to ask for?" Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication that I may say in my prayer." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Say: O Allah, I have wronged myself a great wrong, and none can forgive sins but You. So forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me. Verily, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." [Then he said:] 'O Allah, I have wronged myself a great wrong, and none can forgive sins but You. So forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me. Verily, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I have wronged myself a great wrong, and none can forgive sins but You. So forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me. Verily, You are the Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I have wronged myself a great wrong, and none can forgive sins but You. So forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me. Verily, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.' Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is this?" He said: "Indeed, this is a supplication that I have recited to myself." So Abu Bakr recited it, and he said: "O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and determination in righteousness. I ask You for the things that bring about Your mercy, and the means that guarantee Your forgiveness. I ask You for [a means of] thanking for Your favors, and [a means of] worshipping You in the best manner. I ask You for a sound heart, and I ask You for a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know." He said: "O Allah, I ask You for the good of what Your Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) has asked for, and I seek refuge in You from the evil from which Your Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) sought refuge. And I ask You for what You have ordained." He said: "This is for you, and for whoever asks it after you."
