O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, and to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy on me. And if You intend to try people with a trial, take me to Yourself without being tried. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which will bring me closer to Your love.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'la khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa an taghfir li, wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan fa tawaffani ilayka ghayra maftun. Wa as'aluka hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

When to Read

This dua is perfect for when you see your spouse struggling with self-doubt, hesitant to pursue their goals, or feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges. Recite it during your personal supplications, especially after salah, or even gently encourage your spouse to recite it themselves when they are feeling down.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt desire for your spouse's well-being. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, visualizing Allah granting them strength, clarity, and confidence. Raising your hands in supplication is a beautiful practice, and doing so with your spouse or for them is particularly meaningful.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, helps cultivate a mindset of seeking good, avoiding evil, and developing a love for those in need. Crucially for our purpose, it asks Allah for the love of deeds that bring one closer to Him. When a person loves good deeds and has a connection with Allah, it naturally bolsters their self-worth and encourages them to step out and embrace opportunities, trusting in Allah's plan and support. It addresses the root of self-doubt by strengthening one's connection to the Creator.

Al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I learned from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) some words that I say in Witr. I learned from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): 'O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, and grant me well-being among those whom You have granted well-being. Take me as a guardian among those whom You have taken as guardians. Bless me in what You have bestowed, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. For indeed, You decree, and no one can decree against You. And he is not humiliated whom You have taken as an enemy. Blessed are You, O our Lord, and Exalted.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Every prayer for which one is in a state of certainty is answered.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is Your slave and Messenger, what should I say in my prayer?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You in the right You have over me and in the right of Your creation over me, that You grant me ease in all my affairs, and protection from humiliation, and that I should not be wanting, O my Master, that You take me by the forelock and the feet and bring me to the truth and make me pleased with destiny.' Al-Hasan said: 'Al-Qasim (a narrator) said: I said to Al-Hasan: What did you learn from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)? He said: I learned from him: 'O Allah, I ask You for the confirmation of Your mercy, and the resolve to do the right thing, and the intention to be grateful for Your favors, and to be of good character. I ask You for a sound heart, and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the best of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know, and I ask Your forgiveness for what You know.' Then he said: 'And I learned from him: O Allah, I ask You for the guidance, piety, abstinence, and self-sufficiency.' And he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for the deeds of the good, and the abandonment of the evil deeds, and the love of the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy on me, and if You intend to try people with a trial, take me to Yourself without being tried. And I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.'
