O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and determination in righteousness. I ask You for the things that earn Your mercy and the things that lead to Your forgiveness. I ask You to enable me to be grateful for Your blessings and to worship You in the best way. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good that You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil that You know. I seek Your forgiveness for what You know, for indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, inspire me with guidance and protect me from the evil of my own self. O Allah, rectify my spouse, and make him a delight to my eyes, and make me a delight to his eyes. O Allah, make him a reminder of You, a reminder for me, and a reminder of the Hereafter.
Allahumma inni as'alukath-thabata fil-amr, wal-'azeemata 'alar-rushd, wa as'aluka moojibaati rahmatik, wa hawazima maghfiratik, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik, wa husna 'ibadatik, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan saadiqan, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lam, innaka anta 'allamul-ghuyoob. Allahumma alhimni rushdi, wa a'idhni min sharri nafsi. Allahumma aslih zawji, waj'alhu li qurrata 'ain, waj'alni lahu qurrata 'ain. Allahumma ij'alhu dhakara laka, wa dhakara li, wa dhakara lil-aakhirah.
When to Read
This dua can be recited at any time, but it is particularly beneficial to make it during times of personal supplication, such as after prayers (Salah), during the night (Qiyam al-layl), or when making dua for your family. Consider reciting it during your engagement or after marriage, and periodically throughout your married life to seek Allah's continuous blessing on your relationship.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and full conviction. Raise your hands as is the etiquette of dua, facing the Qiblah if possible. Reflect on the meaning of the words and the profound impact a righteous spouse can have on one's life. Make sure to seek the good for both yourself and your spouse, praying for mutual benefit in this life and the next.
Virtues & Benefits
A spouse who reminds you of Allah and the Hereafter is one of the greatest blessings. Such a partner encourages good deeds, discourages sin, and helps you stay focused on your ultimate purpose. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The whole of this world is a provision, and the best provision of this world is a righteous wife.' (Sahih Muslim 1466). Having a spouse who aids in spiritual growth strengthens the bond between you and Allah, and between you and your spouse, leading to a more fulfilling life in this world and eternal success in the Hereafter.
Source & Authentication
The core of this dua is built upon the general prophetic supplications for guidance and righteousness, and the concept of spouses being sources of comfort and mutual support. For instance, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us to say: > **Arabic:** ุงููููููู ูู ุฃูุนููููู ุนูููู ุฐูููุฑูููุ ููุดูููุฑูููุ ููุญูุณููู ุนูุจูุงุฏูุชููู > **Translation:** 'O Allah, help me to remember You, to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best manner.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1522, Sahih) And regarding spouses: > **Arabic:** ุงูู ูุฑูุฃูุฉู ุงูุตููุงููุญูุฉู ุนููููู ูุฃูุญูุฏูููู ู ุนูููู ุงูุฏููููููุง ููุงูุขุฎูุฑูุฉู > **Translation:** 'A righteous wife is a helper to a man in this world and the Hereafter.' (Reported in various forms, with similar meanings conveyed in authentic sources) This dua seeks to embody these principles by asking Allah to make the spouse a means of remembering Allah and the Hereafter, thereby embodying the essence of a 'righteous wife' or 'righteous husband' as a helper in both realms.
