O Allah, I have submitted my face to You, entrusted my affairs to You, and sought refuge in You for protection, desiring You and fearing You. There is no refuge or safety from You except with You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You sent.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited before sleeping. It encapsulates complete submission and reliance on Allah (SWT) before entering a state of rest and vulnerability.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite this dua before lying down to sleep. It's also recommended to say 'Bismillahi' (In the name of Allah) before placing your hand on the part of your body where you intend to sleep. Ideally, one should sleep on their right side, as this was the preferred practice of the Prophet ﷺ, though sleeping on the left is permissible if one finds it more comfortable or falls asleep in that position.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua before sleep signifies total reliance on Allah for protection throughout the night. It's a powerful affirmation of faith, acknowledging His dominion and our dependence on Him. The Prophet's ﷺ practice of sleeping on his right side is a Sunnah that, while seemingly simple, carries immense barakah (blessing). It is a way to emulate the best of creation and gain closeness to Allah through following his example.
