Dua for Sustaining Good Deeds Throughout the Night

Sleep Duas
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite when you wake up during the night, or before you sleep if you fear you might not wake up for night prayer. It's about seeking Allah's help to not just *do* good, but to ensure that good is beneficial and accepted by Him, and that it continues throughout the day and night.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands if you are awake and it is appropriate. Focus on the meaning of each part: asking for knowledge that benefits you, provision that is pure and lawful, and acts of worship that are truly accepted by Allah. It's a comprehensive request for spiritual well-being.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a believer's entire aspiration: knowledge that leads to guidance, lawful provision that sustains you, and deeds that are accepted by Allah. By asking for accepted deeds, we are essentially asking Allah to grant us the ability to perform acts of worship correctly and sincerely, which will lead to sustained good deeds throughout our waking hours and even into the night, if Allah wills. It's a proactive way to seek Allah's continuous favor.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say when morning came: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and deeds that are accepted). (Sunan Ibn Majah 925). This hadith is narrated in other forms, often linked to the morning supplications, but the essence of asking for accepted deeds extends to all times, including seeking to sustain them.
