O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. And when You intend to test Your creation, take me to Yourself without being tested. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'lal khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan, fatawaffani ghaira maftun. As'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

When to Read

This powerful dua should be recited before sleeping. It's a comprehensive request for guidance, purity of intention, and protection from trials, especially relevant when one might be vulnerable during sleep or when facing temptations that could manifest in dreams.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Ensure you are in a state of purity, if possible, by performing wudu before bed. Place your right hand on your chest while reciting, as this is a Sunnah practice associated with seeking peace and clarity. Reflect on the meaning of the words as you speak them.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound supplication that covers many essential aspects of a believer's life. It asks for the ability to perform good deeds and avoid sins, a characteristic of those who truly fear Allah. It also asks for love of the poor, a sign of a merciful heart, and protection from trials and tribulations. Most importantly, it asks for the love of Allah, the love of those who are beloved to Him, and the love of actions that draw one nearer to the Divine. This comprehensive nature makes it an excellent protection, particularly before sleep when the soul is at rest and potentially more susceptible to subconscious thoughts or influences.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us the Tashahhud and taught us the Salah. He said: "When any one of you sits in prayer, he should say: Allahumma inni as'aluka al-tawfiq li-kulli khayrin, wa 'azman 'ala kulli birrin, wa shukran li ni'matin, wa hubban li ni'matin, wa hubban li-dhikrika, wa hibban li-ma 'indaka, wa an tusharrikani bi-dhikrika, wa an tu'idhani min shaytan al-rajim, wa an tu'idhani min kulli dunbin, wa an tu'idhani min kulli dhanbin, wa an taqdir li al-khayra wa azim 'alayhi. Allahumma inni as'aluka an taj'al sihati kulla-ha khayran, wa an taj'al sirri kulla-hu khayran, wa an taj'al 'amali kulla-hu khayran, wa an taj'al nawmi kulla-hu rahatan, wa an taj'al qiami kulla-hu 'ibadatan. Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'lal khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan, fatawaffani ghaira maftun. As'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik. (Allahumma, I ask You for success in all good, resolution in all righteousness, gratitude for Your favors, love for Your favors, love for remembering You, and love for what is with You. And that You make me share in Your remembrance, and protect me from Satan the outcast, and protect me from every sin, and protect me from every misdeed, and decree for me all good and help me to do it. O Allah, I ask You for patience during the decree, and the stations of the martyrs, and the life of the happy, and victory over the enemy, and do not make him scattered, nor a trial. O Allah, I ask You, O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity, O Possessor of bounty and gifts, there is no god but You, the support of the body, and the salvation of those who desire, and the stations of those who desire, and what is with Allah is better and more lasting. O Allah, I ask You to make all my health good, and to make all my secret good, and to make all my deeds good, and to make all my sleep rest, and to make all my standing worship. O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. And when You intend to test Your creation, take me to Yourself without being tested. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.)
