Sleep Duas
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, instead of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I shall not need to ask of anyone but You.

Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is recommended to be recited before going to sleep. It's a powerful way to end your day by entrusting your worldly concerns, particularly those related to finances and obligations, to Allah. Doing this as you prepare for rest can bring a sense of peace, knowing you've sought His help for the day ahead.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, ideally after your night prayer (Isha) and before you lie down to sleep. Place your trust in Allah's plan and His ability to provide for you and ease your burdens. Reflect on the meaning of the words as you say them, acknowledging Allah as the ultimate source of sustenance and independence.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is profoundly beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it directly asks Allah to protect us from unlawful earnings and to provide for us through lawful means, thus safeguarding our deen (religion) and dunya (worldly life). Secondly, it seeks independence from creation ('amman siwak'), fostering reliance solely on Allah, which is a cornerstone of true faith and a source of inner peace. By reciting this before sleep, we are essentially handing over our worries about debt and financial obligations to the One who can most effectively resolve them, allowing for a more restful sleep and a renewed sense of hope for the morning.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A 'makaatib' (a slave who has an agreement for his freedom) came to him and said: 'I am unable to pay my ('makaatibah') stipulated sum, so help me.' He (Ali) said: 'Shall I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me? If you say them, and you have a debt as large as Mount Sir, Allah will pay it for you.' He said: 'What are they?' He (Ali) said: 'Say: Allahummakfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.' (O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful, instead of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty, so that I shall not need to ask of anyone but You.) — Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563. The hadith is classified as Hasan by Al-Albani.
