Sleep Duas
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2710

In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the whispers of the devils and from their presence.

Bismillahi, a'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatis-shayatini wa an yahdurun.

When to Read

This powerful dua should be recited just before you go to sleep. It's a way of entrusting yourself to Allah's protection throughout the night, a time when we are most vulnerable and often targets for unseen evils, including the effects of the evil eye (al-ayn). Reciting it after your Isha prayer and before settling down to rest is a beautiful way to end your day.

How to Read

Make sure your intention is sincere, seeking Allah's protection alone. Recite it with a clear voice or softly to yourself, focusing on the meaning of the words. It is recommended to recite the last three surahs of the Quran (Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas) and blow them onto your hands, then wipe over your body three times before this dua, following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses comprehensive protection. By seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, you are asking for safety from divine displeasure, from the harm caused by wicked people, and from the insidious temptations and presence of Shayateen. The evil eye is a real spiritual affliction in Islam, and this supplication is a potent shield against its harmful effects while you are in a state of sleep and unawareness.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah ibn Khabbab narrated that his father said: I was with ‘Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-‘As on a very dark night, and I asked him: “Will you not ride a horse? I am afraid that you will be overtaken by the Jinn.” He got annoyed and said: “O’ Abdullah, I fear that you have mentioned something. I have heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘He should seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the anger of Allah and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the temptations of the devils and their presence.’ There is no one among the Muslims who seeks refuge in them but that nothing will harm him until I fall asleep at night or I wake up in the morning.” (Sahih Muslim 2710)
