Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me something I can say in the morning and evening.' He said: 'O Abu Bakr, say: O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the Present, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of all and its Sovereign, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of myself and from the evil of the Shaitan, and from the evil of gathering (clues or seeking it) and from acting wrongly towards myself or bringing evil to any Muslim. Say: O Allah, protect me with Islam while standing, protect me with Islam while sitting, protect me with Islam while sleeping. Do not let an enemy or one who envies me gloat over me. O Allah, I fear evil from myself and from the Shaitan and from evil deeds. I ask You (O Allah) that You grant me the best of what You grant to Your slaves.' And Abu Bakr said: 'These words are my refuge.' And Muslim narrated: 'Say: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, verily I ask You in Your hearing, your sight, your dominion, that You protect me from the evil of my soul and from the evil of the devil, and from the evil of the abominations.' And he narrated from him: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion and my worldly affairs, in my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my weaknesses and allay my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and from behind me, and from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your might from being taken from beneath me.' And when he (Abu Bakr) would go to bed, he would say: 'O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, verily I ask You in Your hearing, Your sight, Your dominion, that You protect me from the evil of my soul and from the evil of the devil, and from the evil of abominations, and from accumulating evil.' And he narrated from him (the Prophet ﷺ): 'Say: O Allah, protect me with Islam while standing, protect me with Islam while sitting, protect me with Islam while sleeping, and do not let an enemy or one who envies me prevail against me. O Allah, I ask You for well-being (Afiyah) in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion and my worldly affairs, in my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my weaknesses and allay my fears. Protect me from before me and from behind me, and from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your might from being taken from beneath me.' And when he (the Prophet ﷺ) would go to bed, he would say: 'Praise be to Allah Who has sufficed me. Praise be to Allah Who has sufficed me.' (Sahih Muslim 2712)
