O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they cover, Lord of the earths and all that they hold, Lord of the devils and all that they lead astray, be my protector against all of Your creation, lest any of them should overwhelm me or transgress against me. Mighty is Your protection, and blessed is Your name. There is no god but You.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azlalna, wa Rabba al-ardiina wa ma aqalna, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adlalna, kun li jaaran min khalqika kullihim ajma'iina, an yafruta 'alayya ahadun minhum aw an yatgha, 'azza jaaruka, wa tabaraka ismuka, wa la ilaha illa ant.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited before sleeping. By seeking refuge in Allah in this manner, you are asking for His divine protection throughout the night, guarding you from any physical harm or distress that might arise from His creation.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's power to protect. It is best to recite it with your right hand placed under your cheek, which is the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when going to sleep. Ensure you are in a state of wudu (ritual purity) if possible, though it is not strictly required for this supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encompasses seeking refuge in Allah from all of His creation, including potential harm from jinn or wicked humans. By invoking Allah as the Lord of the heavens, earths, and devils, you are acknowledging His supreme authority and power over all things, thus seeking the ultimate protection for yourself during your vulnerable state of sleep. It shields you from being overcome or wronged by any entity.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu al-Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Whoever says: 'Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azlalna, wa Rabba al-ardiina wa ma aqalna, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adlalna, kun li jaaran min khalqika kullihim ajma'iina, an yafruta 'alayya ahadun minhum aw an yatgha, 'azza jaaruka, wa tabaraka ismuka, wa la ilaha illa ant.' (O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they cover, Lord of the earths and all that they hold, Lord of the devils and all that they lead astray, be my protector against all of Your creation, lest any of them should overwhelm me or transgress against me. Mighty is Your protection, and blessed is Your name. There is no god but You.) – his (own or the Prophet’s) saying: 'when he wakes up at night.' (The narrator) said: The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allah will send down to him an announcer who will, upon his waking, announce: 'May Allah reward you with good, you have been protected.'"
