He (the devil) might change around you by Allah's command. When you wake up, say: 'In the name of Allah, all praise is due to Allah, glory be to Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no might nor power except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.' Nothing will harm you.

Yatahawwalu hawlaka bi-amri Allahi.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication offers comprehensive protection. By remembering Allah immediately upon waking from a bad dream, you are essentially turning to your Creator for safety and seeking to dispel any negative influence. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ assured that reciting this dua would prevent any harm from reaching the person.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Qatadah: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Good dreams are from Allah and bad dreams are from Satan. So if one of you sees a bad dream which he dislikes, he should spit on his left side three times and seek refuge in Allah from its evil, and it will not harm him." (Sahih al-Bukhari 7045). And in another narration: 'Uthman ibn Abi al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When I complained to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the evil that was bothering me, he said: 'Take hold of your body and say: 'Bismillahi, 'ala dhikrillah.' (In the name of Allah, and by the remembrance of Allah).' He repeated that three times. Then he said: 'As for 'Abdullah ibn Ghannam, he complained to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the evil that was bothering him. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'Say: 'Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika.' (O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best way).'' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1522 - Hasan). The dua mentioned in the entry is specifically for waking up from a bad dream and seeking protection from its effects, drawing upon the general principle of seeking refuge in Allah from Shaytan's whispers.
